Internet Enrich Science Society of Papua

Jayapura  - Manager Sales Data and Value Added Service (VAS) PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk Papua, Amran Ali, said that Internet technology can be an effective medium to enrich the knowledge society in Papua.

"Papua is a region relatively far from areas of western Indonesia, which tend to be more rapid development and close to a rapid progress. With the internet, people in Papua are not going to miss the information and knowledge that can be updated online and continuously," said Amran in Jayapura, Sunday.

He said public awareness of the importance of Papua internet technology has not as tall as people in other areas has become one of the necessities of life.

Communities in Papua who need information and communication technologies, especially the Internet, although the number continues to rise from time to time, is still limited to certain circles.

"Most who use the internet are a student and the student, usually for work assignments or theses, the lecturers and several government agencies and the private sector," said Amran.

Whereas ditandaskannya, internet technology is not limited to a particular community because it can be used for various needs and interests such as communicating with people around the world through social networking, disseminate or seek information on a variety of things and so forth.

"Everyone can take advantage of the Internet, not only in offices but also at home or somewhere else when needed. In fact, even housewives could use the internet in order not to miss the information and world development," said Amran.

Internet services provided by PT Telkom, Speedy in all areas of Papua and West Papua in December 2009 reached until 5800.

Of this amount, the area of Jayapura is the most local customers, including as many as 2336 Jayapura, Abepura 1197, Waena Sentani 369 and 552 customers.

To increase the number of customers while increasing awareness of the importance of Internet technology, socialization of these technologies, needs to be done so that people are increasingly interested in Papua Speedy subscription so they can be a way to enrich their knowledge.
